A Cloud Story
She hated Mondays. Especially this Monday. It was a packed day. She cringed as she set her foot on the cold floor. College, evening shift at the cafe and then volunteering at the bookstore until 8 p.m. She did not look forward to any of them.
As she packed her books, she debated on the thought of carrying an umbrella in her bag. Her car was out for service and she had to walk. She looked at the time and in a hurry turned the knob of the stove and rushed out forgetting all about the umbrella.
After a rather long and tiring day at college, she rushed to the cafe. It soon started to rain. The thunder and lightning caused a power outage in the town and hence none of the machines in the cafe could be operated. She could not serve anything to those who had taken shelter in the cafe to escape the rain. She couldn’t make any money that day. What an unfortunate day, she thought.
She was glad the book store was closed and so she hurried home.
As she entered her house, she could smell smoke. Grumbling, she ran towards the stove and saw that she had left it on. Instead of turning the knob to the left, she had turned it to the right. The low but continuous heat had caused a permanent damage to the chimney and the stove. That meant all her pocket money and her salary would be spent on paying for the damage caused. She screamed out loud as she ran out of the house. The smoke was making her cough and so she ran out of the house screaming “Can it get any worse?”
Beep Beep Beep .. The alarm woke her up. She was coughing and sweating when she got up. She was so relieved that the day had just begun.
She double checked the stove and picked up her umbrella as she stepped out of the house. She smiled and told herself that she could pull off the day.
Sometimes dreams are a manifestation of our fears and reality is not as bad.
