The most important promise one makes is the one that is made to oneself. When she made that promise from 6 feet under the snow, she knew she would keep it forever.

Her friends considered her as their lucky charm. She was not sure about the luck aspect, but she did spread her charm around wherever she went. She never complained about anything in life and made sure no one did whenever she was around. She always made it a point to talk to people about the good things happening in their life and in the world around. She was hence the most sought after company. Her friends described her presence as an Infectious Optimism.

When alone, she walked into the woods to find a place where she could sit and recharge herself. PTSD ( Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) was not just a medical term for her. It was something she was fighting. It was a battle she had to win over. The medications and therapy had helped her to a large extend but she was still susceptible to it.

She had made the  promise to herself and to the “power” in charge of miracles. She was the only survivor of the snowstorm that hit her town. Buried under six feet of snow, she closed her eyes and kept that light within her burning. The warmth of that light is what saved her in spite of being there for two full days. When the rescue team found her and took her out, she was unusually warm.

Her promise to consider life as a gift and to spend every day of her life in gratitude was made right there in the presence of that light. She was determined to carry that promise until she went 6 feet under again. She called it her six feet to six feet promise.

She tried to tell people that they don’t have to be six feet under to make those promises to self. That promise can be made from six feet above the ground also.
