Each of us have our areas of strengths and that of disabilities. Some visible, some not visible. We always notice the disabilities in the other and think we can hide ours. It is a funny world indeed. Each one pointing to the other and in turn getting pointed by many others.

When the two of them got together, everyone who knew them came over to celebrate their togetherness.

Both of them were considered “slow” as per the normal standards. The standards that have been set by those who think they can hide their disabilities.  He could never finish his tasks at the speed at which his brain would have wanted him to. She could never think at the speed at which her body could accomplish different tasks The coordination never happened. They often ended up laughing at their own mistakes.

On a rainy day when he stepped out of the library to get into the assisted vehicle, he saw her waiting near the vehicle. She was trying to open an umbrella which was already open. He walked towards her not realizing that he was getting drenched. The moment she saw him, she came towards him, still trying to open that open umbrella.

When they came close enough, he told her the umbrella was already open and then tried to hold the umbrella above them. She quickly held his hand and helped him do that. They had a hearty laugh together.

Though “slow” by normal standards, both of them were fast enough to feel the connect they had. Both of them were fast in acknowledging each other’s strengths and disabilities. They realized quickly that it sometimes takes more than one to be complete.
