The civil war between the two main ethnic groups had already done enough damage to the country. The war had gone on for so long that they had forgotten the reason for the war. They had reached a point where the  reason for hatred became hatred itself. They fought because that is what they thought they had to do.

The war had taken a toll on the country’s growth and the countrymen’s well being. The foreign aids were constantly decreasing and that was in turn making the already diminishing resources even scarce.

The new leader of the country was young and determined. He wanted to end the civil war and use those men and women towards building a stronger nation. He had discussions and debates with the leaders of the ethnic groups. They could never come to a conclusion because they did not know what they were fighting over.

It had not rained for many years. That year, there was a forecast of “big rains”. The new leader called for the ethnic group leaders once again for a final round of discussion. He told them that he had put his sources to work to find out the reason for the war. He convinced them with some pre dated records that the war had broken out over water. This year they were expecting big rains and that should solve the issue.

Each group was asked to harvest and preserve water in their respective areas. They were given aids to help them achieve the task. All they had to do was to divert the people who were in the war towards rebuilding the nation.

With the first spell of rain, the civil war stopped and the country started taking baby steps towards development.

The war was hence named the Fire War because all it took to douse it was rain.
