After losing the race with the tortoise, the hare was very upset. He thought he would never be able to forgive himself for falling asleep under that tree. In order to be away from everyone, he travelled far away to live a life of recluse. He lived and raised his family in the new place. Along with providing for his family, he also made it a point to tell each of them about the race. The story of the race was hence passed on from one generation to the other.

Many generations later, the hare family decided to migrate back to the forest. They were happy to be back to the place where the hare used to live before losing that historic race. They were also pleasantly surprised that no one talked about the race or the defeat of the hare. Instead, all of them spoke about the hare with respect and regard.

A little hare was very curious and wanted to meet the tortoise that defeated his great grandfather. After a rather long and tiring journey in the rain, the hare found the old tortoise resting in a freshly formed lake.

As they spoke to each other, the tortoise told the hare something that made him weep with joy. The hare ran home soaked in rain to tell this story to his family. He gathered his family members and narrated to them what the tortoise told him.

When the tortoise reached near the tree where the hare had fallen asleep, the tortoise heard the hare mumble something in sleep. He went close and heard the hare say “ Go tortoise go… You can win the race. “ The tortoise knew that moment that the hare was not bad at heart.

The tortoise had told this to all the animals in the forest.

The hare family could now put things in perspective. They were glad they came back to their forest.
