philosopher's stone
Poem

Before We Discover That Philosopher’s Stone

We complain about the rain when it rains
And then crib about the draught!
We don’t like it when it is hot
We are not happy when it gets cold
We grumble about too much work
And get bored when it is too little
We yearn for attention most of the time
And then complain about not having space

Not sure about what we want
And how much we want of it
Not sure when to say No
And when to nod a Yes
Unclear about the journeys to embark
And the ones to disembark from

We are filled with such Hippocratic thoughts and talks.
Amidst these ambiguities within our own selves, we set expectations.
Setting the bars for oneself and for others.
Getting hurt about not meeting those.
Bringing others down for not doing so.
Breaking up with oneself and others for going astray.

Like the character in The Alchemist, we will all end up just where we began.
To find that gold just where we are.
That balance and fullness just where we belong.
But then, there are miles to be covered.
There are fears to be encountered.
There are battles to be fought.
There are hypocrisies to be broken.
Before we discover that philosopher’s stone!

DEEPA.
