The Birthday Party
February Story Series:
It was her birthday and she was happy. She looked forward to the cake, the candles, the friends and the fun.
Everything was planned. The games, the songs and the dance. She had all the balloons tied into a bunch. She always saved the best piece of cake for her besties. It was customary for her best friends to stay back after the party for a sleepover.
Like every year, she got dressed and took out her photo album. Pictures of her in the hospital, of her proud parents and grandparents, her siblings and cousins, she loved going through all of them. As she flipped through the pictures in the album, she thought of all the fun she had for all these years. With her fingers and toes crossed. She wished for all this happiness and love to flow through all her years to come.
She remembered how her mom always complained about how much it had rained on the day she was born. It was raining cats and dogs and they just managed to reach the hospital on time to get her out. It had rained almost every year on her birthday and today was no exception. She had made provisions for her guests to hang their coats and umbrellas near the door. She knew that most of them would complain of the weather as soon as they entered.
She was lost in her thoughts when the doorbell rang. She got up, straightened the pleats of her skirt and had one last look at the room. Everything looked perfect. Just the way it always did on her birthday. She took out the cake and placed the candle near it. The candle which read 60, and another one for good luck.
She ran to open the door and couldn’t wait for the party to begin!
