The Rays Of Knowledge – A Story

All of us love stories, don’t we! Some of the stories we hear stay with us because we hear them at the right time. They come to us like rays of knowledge and become life lessons that stay with us. This is one such story and I am happy to share it with my readers.

The Story

A person arrives on the banks of a river early in the morning. It was dark when he got there. He decided to wait for the sun to rise to take his boat out of the dock. As he walked up and down the bank of the river waiting for the first ray of the sun to shine, he almost tripped against a bag. He took the bag, slid his hand into it, and took out a stone from it. The kids who came to the river to play must have collected stones and left them in this bag, he thought.

He sat on a bench and took out a stone from the bag and threw it into the river. Since he liked the sound of the stone hitting the water, he kept throwing them one by one into the river. It was a good activity to pass his time. He was holding the last stone in his hand as the sun showed up from behind the hills. The rays of the sun fell on the stone in his hand, and it sparkled.

The person couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw that he was holding such a precious stone in his hand. He could make a lot of money by selling the stone! Thinking of all the stones that he threw away, not recognizing the value of each of those stones, he sighed. He wished he could get back those stones. But he knew there was no point trying to look for the stones he threw away into the deep river. Fastening his hold on the last stone in his hand, he walks away. He walks away, a much richer and wiser person than he was when he arrived on the bank of the river. He had learned some very important life lessons.

Moral Of The Story

It is not until the first rays of light/rays of knowledge fall on our ignorant minds that we understand the value of what we are holding in our hands. We throw away time, relationships, etc into the deep water due to our ignorance.

We either do not recognize their value or foolishly think our bags will always remain full. When the rays of knowledge shines upon us, it takes away our ignorance.
