Is This The Future?
This is the first time I am taking part in the Speculative fiction prompt by Diana Wallace Peach . It is interesting to see so many responses to this image that was posted.
What we hear, read and see, play a big role in how we feel. In the last couple of weeks, I have been watching a lot of documentaries about mind over body healing techniques and the dirty truths of the pharmaceutical industry. They have definitely influenced what I felt when I looked at the image.
Thank you Diana for being the trigger.
Is This The Future?
You told everyone this is what I am made of:
Levers and Axles and Nuts and Bolts.
Replacing one with another when there was a problem.
Injecting chemicals and metals, even when not necessary.
Yes, you did a great job in saving lives and protecting them
I wish you had stopped there and not become greedy
Playing around with placebos and nocebos
Without a thought about where it leads.
You made me look like something you could create.
Convincing everyone around you to believe it.
Whatever you couldn’t explain, you chose to hide
Never telling why you can never actually simulate me.
You tried and made my look alike
Taught it to act and talk like me
But you can never get beyond algorithms
Whatever you make will always be artificial
The realm of consciousness and awareness
Is beyond what you can ever replicate
The mind within my body is so strong and powerful
But you scared it to death with your theories and models
There is still hope, there is still a way out
Using the power of science and the will of the mind
We can still go back to days of mindfulness
Where the cause was treated and not the symptoms
Hail to the discoveries and inventions
But this is not what we want to end up as
Don’t make the mind so dependent
On those chemicals for existence
Life is beautiful and so is our body
Is this the future? please don’t scare me.

What a wonderful surprise as I got online this morning. Thank you, Deepa, for taking up the prompt. And we’re on the same page about health, pharmaceuticals, ethics, and the importance of mindfulness when considering medical choices. I’m so glad the prompt triggered your powerful message. I’ll line your poem up to reblog in a few days. 🙂 Thanks again!
Thank You , Diana.
