The Best Date.
The other day, I had a date.
I got ready to look my best self;
I pulled up a chair and sat in front of the mirror.
With my favorite drink; looking into my eyes.
There, I saw the real ME.
Not a daughter or a sister,ย Not a wife or a mom;
Not a person with a list of things to be done.
I looked quite different and so, did I feel.
All the roles and responsibilities,
Have given me so many dimensions.
I have loved living in them and relished it then;
Checking things off the list and feeling accomplished.
But, when I sat there looking into my eyes;
Not judging or complaining or trying to fit into any role;
I smiled and gave myself a little hug;
I was happy that I had still not lost myself.
That date came like a summer shower;
At the right time to refresh and rejuvenate.
I left the place charged up to take on the world;
But not until I had my calendar marked for the next.

Sometimes we need that to remind ourselves we are okay.
Yes, that reassurance feels so good.
Ho boy, now I need to find that mirror myself. Neat poem.
It is right there Srinivas.. ๐
A lot of times even if we find the mirror and the time, all we see is a list of shortcomings with our own self! It’s great to be able to see your actual self which is actually beautiful always ๐
I loved the last sentence. The actual self is always so beautiful.
So, what happened on your date? LOL
I looked into my eyes, drank my favorite drink , gave myself a hug and promised to come back.. That was the end of the date with myself.. ๐
That’s the best date anyone could ever have. ๐
I love how you reminded us all that we need to let go of all our roles and make a “date” with ourselves now and then. It is refreshing to allow ourselves to see, and accept, just who we really are (and always have been, and always will be!) Thanks!
Thank you Ann.
