Happy New Year
Life Lessons

Today Is That Day – Happy New Year.

Today is that day.
The day we take out a new calendar and write inspiring words on it.
The day we make promises to ourselves and to our loved ones.
The day we are positive we can change ourselves and the world.
The day our morning feels brighter than usual.
The day that brings a wind beneath our wings.
The day we literally turn over a new leaf.
Today is that day.

We always wait for that day to start a new hobby, to change an old habit, to start a healthy life style, to start reading a book, to resolve a misunderstanding, to call and talk to a friend, to apologize for a mistake, the list goes on and on. Today is finally that day, friends. The first day of a new year!

Happy New Year Everyone.

I just took out my journal and wrote down my goals for the year. I wrote them down and read it again to make sure I have covered everything that I had in mind. I have goals regarding my:
Career
Health and fitness
Family’s health and wellness
Relationship with family and friends
Meditation and better understanding of my scriptures
Blog and other writing assignments
Travel and documenting the places visited
Books to be read
A pet project with a friend

All the self help books that I have read heavily emphasize and recommend writing down the goals in a visible place in order for them to manifest. After writing them down, it is about the amount of work we are willing to put in and a certain amount of faith in oneself. For those of us who believe in grace or luck, that also. So if you are still unsure about writing them down, I suggest you do it.

I was getting my grocery billed at a supermarket two days ago and the cashier was sharing his ordeals of the day- an employee card that stopped working, a billing that went wrong, him getting delayed etc etc. He then said ” How could I expect to have a day without bad happenings, we are still in 2020. Isn’t that something I should have known.” I smiled, wished him a good 2021, and rolled my cart away. This is not the first time I have heard this statement ” What else could we expect from 2020? How much more worse can it get?”. I have heard this on TV, from friends, and from strangers.

That brings me to the year 2021.This year comes with a lot of expectations. Perhaps like none other that most of us have seen in our lifetimes. It is like that younger sibling who has no choice but to prove himself/ herself because his/her older sibling turned out to be a jerk. I hope the load of the expectation does not weigh too heavy on the tender shoulders of 2021.

I really hope 2021 turns out to be a good year for all.
I really hope we are all able to achieve the goals that we have set for ourselves.

Welcome 2021.

It’s always nice to go through your posts. They make me reflect. 🙂

Especially love the analogy of the year 2021 to a younger sibling who has to prove him/herself to make up for the jerk the older one is.

Those are great plans, Deepa! I also hope 2021 is a good year for all. And if we work hard, it just might be! Happy New Year to you and yours!
