Organizing That Suits You.

As families are spending more time at home than they ever did, a lot of things home-related are becoming more important now. That nook in the house which was always ignored and overlooked is getting noticed and appreciated now. That picture wall which was always ready for pictures, is finally filled with pictures and memorabilia.

Clean and organized places definitely have a positive impact on our minds. Sometimes inner clutter gets cleaned up along with the one outside and at other times, the de cluttered and organized outer space gives temporary solace from the inner fog.

When it comes to tips for de cluttering and organization, most of us prefer watching videos to reading books. The visual effect is what most of us can connect better with.

After Tidying Up With Marie Kondo, it is The Home Edit show on Netflix that is capturing everyone’s attention now. If “Keep only those things that speak to the heart, and discard items that no longer spark joy” was Marie’s mantra, Clea and Joanna from The Home Edit use a stylish, design centric approach to organization.

I remember, after watching the Marie Kondo show,  I was standing with a dress of mine in my hand to see what it spoke to my heart. When I did not hear anything, I put it back in its place and decided to try again the next day. I did it for as long as the dress screamed out loud, “keep me….”  into my ears. I was glad I did that because though I had not worn it for a very long time, one fine day, that dress became my favorite one and I have been wearing it regularly ever since. I was clearly not made for the Marie Kondo methodology. Things that stop giving joy, suddenly resume to spark joy after some time.

I also believe that joy from things depends primarily on my state of mind at that time. While I am in a happy mood, and when I feel good about myself, all clothes spark joy. And otherwise, none of them do.

Looks like things are going on pretty good for Clea and Joanna from @thehomeedit. Their show is doing well on Netflix, their book The Home Edit is a bestseller, and their social media handles are adding followers by the minute. In the show, they do a good job with organizing every part of the house and leaving it with a little touch of rainbow.

The issue however could arise when people get tired of seeing the rainbow colors everyday. A rainbow is a rare occurrence in the sky and if we were to see it everyday, it could become just too many colors there. Not to mention people going overboard with buying canisters, shoeboxes and sweater bins and then wondering what to fill in those containers.

The next show to hit the chord with you could be one on minimalistic living and then, there could be a lot of boxes and bins to get rid of.

It is good to learn some tips and tricks from all of them and then have a customized version of Organization that suits our life and lifestyle. It is a good idea to fold your T-shirt’s the way Marie does in her show when you feel like it and it is fine to hang it up on a hanger when you are not up to it.

Like everything else in life , there is no one size fits all rule in organization too. Each of us have things we enjoy and things that we don’t. As long as it doesn’t come in the way of our productivity, a clean space is all we need. The key here being – it should not affect your productivity.

For those who are pumped up to organize and de clutter like Marie Condo or the girls at The Home Edit, go ahead and enjoy the process…

And

For those who are just fine with the way things are , it is absolutely okay too..

Whatever suits you is your style of organizing.

I need to declutter. We’ve been working on our house, painting some rooms. They’ve been done for a while, but because of the arrival of summer we’ve been going to the lake. Now that fall is upon us, we’ll be able to put everything back together. 🙂

This is a timely topic for me, because I’m busy putting away my summer clothes and getting out my Fall clothes, and the process is reminding me that I have way too many clothes that I hardly, if ever, wear. Some are so easy to get rid of, but others are so hard, and I’m not sure why!
