Half Way Through 2020

🙂

This is an image that got me thinking hard about the year 2020. Given a choice, would you add this year to your age?

We are half way through 2020. It seems like yesterday when I was trying hard to come up with my #WOTY (Word (s) Of The Year) for 2020 . Social media was filled with posts, stories, polls and quiz with the hashtag WOTY. All of us had our heads (and planners) filled with things that we wanted to achieve, achievements we wanted to celebrate, celebrations we wanted to plan and plans we wanted to execute. A lot of them involved travel, meeting up with people and being out there. And, just like that, we had to pause and put a halt to most of them.

Anger, frustration, sadness and helplessness, we have gone though all of those emotions. Then, emerged traits in us that we never knew existed. After complaining, resisting and denying everything that was happening around us, we finally fell in place of acceptance.

If we were to sum up what we did so far in 2020, we could say:

  • We fought our darkest fears with positivity, hope, prayers and gratitude for what we are left with.
  • We learnt to care for each other by keeping a distance.
  • We learnt to smile a little harder so our smile is not hidden under our mask and it reflected in our eyes.
  • We learnt to pray for everyone, so the world could reopen.
  • We learnt to find happiness in things we had taken for granted.
  • We learnt to spend time with ourselves.
  • We learnt more about the great equalizers.
  • We learnt that not all plans always play out the way we want them to.

These are great learnings and if we can consider these learnings as ways in which we have used 2020, then, I guess we can still consider adding it up to our age. What do you think?

There’s no denying that 2020 has been a very tough year, but you’re right that it also brought us some gifts and taught us some lessons. I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was hoping for better things next year, but we get what we get. And all we can do is accept that and look for the positive!
