Straight Out Of My Fitness Journal: Part 2: A Side Track.

This is a little side track from my Straight From The Fitness Journal Series.

For those who have not read the previous part of this series, you can read it by clicking HERE.

I used to follow a lot of celebrities on social media. Recently I un-followed all of them and started following their trainers and fitness experts and the people who work to make them what they are. It is like getting access to the back stage of a theatre. It is like watching the behind-the-scenes video of a hit movie or play.

As a child, I used to be envious of my teacher. The teacher already knows stuff,  has the power to give HomeWork to kids and the teacher even gets to go home and watch TV all day. As a grownup, I had similar ideas about fitness trainers. So cool! They know what to do when to do and how much to do, they get to make others sweat it out, and they get to eat whatever they wanted ( a grownup’s version of watching TV all day). I don’t seem to have changed much vis-a-vis my idea of a teacher’s advantage.

Oh boy! I was so wrong then, and  am so wrong now. I am amazed at the hard work put in by each of these trainers. They keep finding newer and better ways to keep their students motivated and to help them achieve their goals. Kudos to their clan. Hope they keep motivating and inspiring many more like you and me.

In this blog, I would like to share a small story that I heard during a lecture by one of my favorite spiritual teachers.

A young man, keen on learning the scriptures and leading a spiritual life, approached a teacher. The teacher was a renowned scholar and run a hermitage and a school for people interested in leading a spiritually enlightened life.

The young man bowed to the teacher and started started a conversation.

He said: “Teacher, I am keen on learning the scriptures and becoming a spiritual guru like you. Please accept me as your disciple and guide me on this path”

The teacher said “ You are most welcome. You can start whenever you are ready.”

The Student: “ Could you please tell me  how a typical day at the school would look like.”

The Teacher: “ You wake up early in the morning, do your chores, read the scriptures, have your breakfast, attend classes conducted by the senior students,  have your lunch, get back to your classes, volunteer at the various school departments, do your chores at the hostel, read your scriptures and sleep. This will be your schedule for every day you are here.”

The Student (who did not seem very happy about what he had just heard) : “ That is a lot of work.”

The Teacher: “ Yes, It is. “

He looks around and sees the students working in the school premises.

The Student: “And, what does the teacher do all day?”

The Teacher: “Oh! I sit here and meditate all day.”

The Student : “ Really! Then, I want to become a Teacher.”

Hope you  liked the story as much as I did.

Isn’t this something most of us wish we could do in our lives.  Just cut the whole process and get right there. If I were to talk in terms of the fitness journey, don’t we all like to be  at the pinnacle of health and fitness where we could just sit and enjoy a perfect body.

But Alas! We all have to do exactly what the teacher in the story talks about. Keep working at it.
