We Find What We Look For
A lot of people ask me how I find topics to write. I publish one article every week and that means I need 4-5 topics every month and 52 topics every year. There are so many bloggers who publish one article every day, and they find a new topic for every single day. How do people do it? Well, my answer is simple : We find what we look for.
Is it easy? Absolutely not! But, is it doable? Of course yes!
I would like to share an incident that happened last week, which is in line with out topic for today. It is a perfect example of : we find what we look for.
I enrolled for an exam recently and after an unsuccessful remote proctoring attempt ( I got logged out due to technical glitches and hence had to reschedule the exam), I opted to take my test at a proctor center. The center I selected, was around 55 miles from home. I initially thought of asking a family member to drive me to the center because the exam itself was stressful enough and 4 hours long. I was not sure if I wanted to have the additional task of driving and then finding a parking spot close by. But I also did not want to disturb the schedule of anyone else. That is when I remembered a conversation with a friend who spoke very calmly and confidently about driving over a hundred miles for writing an exam. I thought to myself , ” If she can, I too can.” That conversation motivated me to go by myself and write the exam.
I called that friend after my exam and narrated my experience. To my surprise, she seemed very thrilled to hear that I did not ask for help to be taken to the center. When I told her that she was the one who motivated me to do it, she said she was just considering that option and was not yet sure about it. But now that I had done it, she felt motivated to do it herself. Both of us cracked up laughing. Is there a term for motivator being motivated or do we call it the motivation cycle ?
It was an eye opener for me because it struck me that I was so desperately looking for a reason to do something that I found it in a very casual remark made by my friend. She probably did not sound as calm and confident as I thought she did! My mind probably tricked me into believing it. We always find what we are looking for.
It also shows that whatever stone we pick up, we already have a good reason to do so. We have the resources in us to fulfill the demands of that stone. All we need is a little push and we get that push when we look for it.
Each of us find what we are looking for. A blog topic, motivation to drive to the test center, a reason to write, to pass a test, it could be anything. The bottom line is: We find what we look for.
