Waiting For The Wind
Every morning she takes her dominoes out of the bag and places them one behind the other. She makes sure they are kept at the right distance from each other, and from the window that brings the wind into the house. It is a long process and she does it to the best of her abilities . Planning the colors that should go first, the pattern that she wants it to form when it falls down, and every other detail that she can think of.
Once it is all placed, she waits for the wind to push the first domino tile which then pushes the next and then the next. The entire pattern is taken down and she claps and laughs and feels proud of her achievement.
There are days when it happens as soon as she lays the tiles out. There are days when she waits for days together for the wind to gently push the first tile down. There are days when the wind is so strong that the dominoes are scattered all over the room and some even go missing.
The best thing about the wind is that its presence is not felt as much as its absence is missed. The havoc it creates is more discussed than the days when it passes by gently pushing one domino, ensuring all tiles fall just the right way.
The girl calls the wind by different names. We all call that one gentle push of the wind by different names; missing its absence much more than feeling its presence. The wind has to place a magical touch on the first domino for all the events to unfold, no matter how well we have placed all our tiles one after the other. When the wind comes, we do not want our tiles to be half done or not ready for the magic it can create. So all of us wake up every morning and place those tiles one after the other. We do it every single day, and clap and celebrate whenever that magical touch works its wonders. We wait for it on days that it doesn’t show up. The waiting and the hope of the incident happening, humbles us and keeps us grounded.
May that magical wind blow at the right time in all our lives!
